The minister reiterated that the CAA is not to take away the citizenship of any Indian but to give citizenship to persecuted religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

North East Delhi’s Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Yamuna Vihar, Chand Bagh, Mustafabad and Bhajanpura were among the areas worst hit by the communal violence.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court issued notices on a plea for the registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and others on charges of delivering hate speeches.

The Congress termed the PIL as politically motivated and attacked the BJP over inaction on the hate speeches made by party leaders like Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma which led to the riots.

The Delhi Police has registered 167 FIRs and 885 people have been arrested or detained in connection with the North East Delhi violence.

Yesterday, the Karnataka Congress accused the BJP of colluding with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi in instigating riots saying that both the parties were hand in glove and playing the hide and seek game to fool people.
